Hyaluronic acid: natural or chemical?

THE SECRET OF BABY SKIN PARTIALLY REVEALED!

Infants have a large amount of an active ingredient we all seek… Why do babies have such plump skin? What is the secret of that soft and velvety "baby skin"? I don’t think I’m far from the truth in saying that each of us has asked this question at least once. So today, I’m going to reveal part of the secret.

The first thing to know is that an infant’s body is made up of about 80% water (while we adults range between 55% and 60% (1)), but above all, the second essential element is… hyaluronic acid! Yes, you read that right, baby skin contains a very large amount of hyaluronic acid.

But how does it give infants that plump appearance? By retaining water to form a gel. It works like a small dehydrated sponge that, when in contact with water, holds the liquid and swells to double or even triple in volume. Hyaluronic acid works the same way and can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water (2)!

NATURE CREATED HYALURONIC ACID…

A molecule present long before humans!

Hyaluronic acid belongs to the family of polysaccharides, meaning complex sugars. Researchers believe it originated with the first bacteria 2 billion years ago. However, it was only identified in 1934 in animals, in a part of the eye called the vitreous humor (3). As a fun fact: its name comes from this discovery because vitreous in Greek is “hyalos.”

As I just explained, hyaluronic acid is a natural molecule present in babies’ bodies but also in all humans and animals. It doesn’t disappear as we grow up, thankfully, although its quantity and quality decrease with aging, but I’ll talk about that later.

Our body produces hyaluronic acid found everywhere: in the brain, eyes, umbilical cord, but also within the skin. In fact, the skin contains the most hyaluronic acid: half of it (about 7 to 8g (4,5)) is found in the epidermis and dermis. This highly effective molecule can retain up to 1000 times its weight in water. If you want to prolong this elasticity, discover our Hyaluronic Acid Booster Serum 3.2%, formulated with 100% natural and totally vegan ingredients.

…AND HUMANS SAW IT IN A TUBE!

When I start these explanations, people ask me, “So where does the hyaluronic acid in cosmetics come from? Can’t it be extracted from humans?” Of course not, rest assured.

To understand everything, let’s go back a few years, even decades: previously, the hyaluronic acid used in cosmetics came from… rooster combs! For many years, this was the preferred source for cosmetics.

But don’t worry, not at Novexpert! We have always been vegan, even before the term existed. We naturally exclude any animal-derived ingredients from our formulas.

THANKS TO BIOTECHNOLOGIES!

To obtain biodegradable hyaluronic acid similar to what we find in our skin, at Novexpert we use biotechnologies. Let me explain more precisely: good bacteria from milk are exposed to wheat in a stressful environment, for example, at very high temperature or high pressure. To protect themselves, the bacteria create, thanks to the sugars in wheat, a shield, a protective envelope made of 100% pure hyaluronic acid.

This is the hyaluronic acid we include in our product formulas. Its composition is similar to that produced by our body, which can therefore fully use and degrade it. This process is natural but also clean, meaning non-polluting. Only advantages!

Note, I’m talking here about Novexpert’s choices to have natural hyaluronic acid. Some companies sometimes modify it after creation to make it more resistant to oxidation, for example, or to make it last longer in the body. This then becomes synthetic hyaluronic acid. So if you don’t want to be mistaken, choose 100% natural with Novexpert!

If you want to be sure to choose a skincare product with truly “natural” hyaluronic acid, explore our hyaluronic acid product range that meets this requirement.

After reading this article, promise me you won’t be jealous of babies!

More seriously, remember to:

- No longer think that hyaluronic acid is an artificial molecule.

- Choose 100% natural formulas to be sure of the origin of the hyaluronic acid you apply to your skin. To do this, come discover or rediscover our dedicated hyaluronic acid range. And to go even further, find the detailed list of ingredients used under each of our product sheets.

The Essentials
