Their role? To destroy bacteria to preserve the formula.
But in their fight, they also attack the good bacteria on your skin, which is a shame…
Some examples of preservatives you won’t find in a 100% natural face cream: Potassium sorbate/Sorbic acid, Dehydroacetic acid/Sodium dehydroacetate, Sodium benzoate/Benzoic acid, Benzyl alcohol (note that the latter is also a listed allergen, quite a feat!).
(Occasionally) PETROCHEMICAL-BASED POLYMERS!
Their role? To thicken or stabilize formulas.
But sometimes they form an occlusive film on the skin’s surface. Suffocated skin, not great!
Some examples of polymers you won’t find in a 100% natural face cream: Carbomer, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylates crosspolymer, Ammonium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Sodium Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer.
(And sometimes even) suspected ENDOCRINE DISRUPTORS
Their role? They can serve multiple purposes: preservatives, sunscreens, whitening agents, etc. They are the most insidious because they disrupt hormonal balance, but their consequences often only appear in the long term. The hormonal system becomes unbalanced.
Some examples of endocrine disruptors you won’t find in a 100% natural face cream: Triclosan, Salicylic acid, Benzophenone, Cyclomethicone.
