Une peau très sèche se reconnaît par des tiraillements, un inconfort persistant, une peau rugueuse et parfois des squames, ces petites cellules mortes visibles à sa surface. Plus qu'un simple manque d'eau, la sécheresse intense traduit notamment un déséquilibre des lipides qui participent à la barrière protectrice de la peau.

Ces lipides jouent un rôle essentiel : ils forment une sorte de ciment entre les cellules de la couche cornée, qui aide à retenir l'eau dans la peau. Lorsqu'ils sont insuffisants ou déséquilibrés, la barrière cutanée devient moins efficace, l'eau s'évapore plus facilement et la peau devient plus vulnérable aux agressions extérieures.

Une peau très sèche a donc besoin de plus qu'une simple hydratation : elle a besoin d'être nourrie et relipidée. Les acides gras et les lipides sont particulièrement intéressants pour aider à renforcer la barrière cutanée et retrouver confort et souplesse.
